I didn’t think I will make it to the top. After Cotopaxi and the discussions with Marcelo who always said chimbo is twice as hard as cotopaxi – and based how I felt – I thought I give it a try but won’t make it…
BUT I DID!!!!!!
YIPIIIIIII!!!!

what a mountain!!!!

again, the pictures don’t get it at all. This time we startet at like 11pm to make it to the top for sunrise at 6am (which we did). It was soooo steep. All the time 45°… even more exhausting as Cotopaxi.

After being at the southernmost city in the world (Ushuaia) – I now have been at the furthest (land)point away from the center of the earth!

Chimborazo’s summit is the farthest point one can get from the center of the Earth and still be on land. It is about 2160m farther from the center than Everest’s summit. This is only possible because the Earth is in the shape of an oblate spheroid, i.e., it is flattened (squashed) at the poles and bulging at the equator.

It is peak nr. 17 worldwide if sorted by “prominence” which means it is more “independant” than the K2!

In topography, prominence, also known as autonomous height, relative height, shoulder drop (in North America), or prime factor (in Europe), categorizes the height of the mountain’s or hill’s summit by the elevation between it and the lowest contour line encircling it and no higher summit. It is a measure of the independence of a summit.
